After graduation from Bapst, I studied x-ray technology at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
I delighted in this phase of my life, finding the medical environment, patients, fellow students, and x-ray technology enjoyable and stimulating.
After graduation, I remained on the staff at Hopkins, heading the x-ray department in Brady Institute. While there, I met Bill Lucas, a urologist from Australia, and we married in 1959.
After settling in Sydney, I began further study at Sydney University.
Between 1965 and 1971, our daughter and two sons were born and so I became a fulltime 'Mum', exactly what I wanted to be!
I returned to University in the 80s, gaining my Bachelor's Degree, followed by a Master's Degree in History.
Subsequently, I began writing a book, an outgrowth from my Master's thesis. It is concerned with the United States Servicewomen who came to Australia during World War II. This undertaking was brought to an abrupt end by a bout with cancer. Thankfully, I was eventually able to return to the book and completed it some years later.
My husband retired from practice at the beginning of 1999.
Since then we have filled our days in many ways, one of which was 'downsizing' from our home of 30 years.
We have welcomed our two dear grandchildren into the world and spend as much time as possible with them and our children who live and work in Sydney or within striking distance.
We have traveled within Australia and overseas, often to Maine! We were there in July of this year but unfortunately won't be able to be there in September.
It goes without saying that my thoughts will be in Bangor over the weekend of our 50th. I send everyone my fondest and best wishes for a fun-filled and happy Reunion Celebration!
